Cooling Off Cali...

Last Sunday Aunt Kristi came over and helped us prepare for KJ's first visit to California. We have learned that Kennedy is a huge fan of her aunt and refuses to sleep when she is around. Kennedy did pass out for about five minutes but by late afternoon was so tired she looked like heck. KJ is going to get to use some of her outfits that were too big for her when it turned too cold at home.

Saturday morning saw us up and at the airport by 8:30 for KJ's first 2 flights. We failed to do the math that we were leaving Chicago at 10:20 CST and not getting to Ontario, CA until 2:30 CA time or 4:30 CST and not deplaning at a quick stop in Phoenix. Crackers, peanuts, and pretzels can make for very hungry parents. Kennedy fed at takeoff and then took a quick nap. She was traveling like a champ and very happy except for two very painful diaper changes where she went into a screaming fit because we were taking too long. The changes when about like this - Brooke holding Kennedy up while taking 5 minutes to unfold the disposable changing cloth, taking the old diaper off, putting the new diaper under her and then struggling mightily to attempt to get the new diaper on. Then several cuss words, kicking over drinks being saved by the flight attendent, extreme crying and screaming and boom a new diaper. More feeding and some cussing by mommy that daddy wasn't being helpful enough and our happy baby returned.

In Phoenix, the plane was emptied except for the 26 staying through to CA and the first group to board the plane was the country rat pack - Tracy Byrd, Tracy Lawrence, & Richie McDonald (former lead singer of Lone Star) as they had done a gig in Albuqurque on Friday night and were headed to a gig at spotlight29.com Casino. Richie cut in front of me in the bathroom line and then came out with TP on his foot before we took off:) Richie sang the put your trash away song closed out by Lonestar's hits. The flight from Phoenix to Ontario was only and hour and KJ was a smiling happy trouper since didn't have to do a diaper change in flight.

Once in Cali Kennedy slept through part of our dinner but decided to wake up as we were walking back to our hotel and decided to stay up until 11 CST time. Hopefully this trip doesn't ruin our sweet sleeping schedule but can you blame a kid for being excited on her first vacation? We turned on the news when we got here and the weather forecast is unseasonably cool but hey going from 5 in Chicago to 70 who cares. I am still going to find a way to get KJ in the heated pool.
